English 12 AP – Thursday October 17th, 2013

As we wrap up short stories, we will have a quiz next Wednesday (October 23) on the following terms:

artistic unity, characterization, conflict (internal and external), dynamic character, escape literature, epiphany, exposition, first person narrative, indeterminate ending, interpretive literature, limited omniscient point of view, omniscient point of view, pathos, static character.

1. Here is the outline for the Everyday use -Character Essay on “Everyday Use” – Due Thursday October 10th.

AP English – September 11, 2013

1.  For Tuesday, September 17, 2012:

In a well-developed paragraph, explain in detail why “The Japanese Quince” should be considered either literary or escape fiction. Be sure to use specific and direct references from the story and the article on “Reading the Story.” (at least two)

2.  Read the essay on “Plot.”

3.  Be able to define/discuss the following terms:

Conflict (all types), Protagonist, Antagonist, Happy ending, Indeterminate ending, Suspense, Mystery, Dilemma, Surprise, Coincidence, Foreshadowing, Artistic unity, Plot manipulation, Narrative hook, Deus ex machina
